Burnet football looks to continue success against Giddings

The Burnet High School football team welcomes Giddings at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, to Bulldog Field.
The Bulldogs (1-2, District 13-4A Division I) are looking to even their record against a Buffalo team (1-2, District 2-3A Division II) that has the same goal.
And Giddings will have plenty of eyes on senior Grant Jones who ensured a 28-7 victory last year thanks to scoring two receiving touchdowns, catching an interception on the Burnet 30-yard line, and blocking a punt that led to another score.
The best way to ensure Jones, who has played mostly receiver so far, doesn’t have that type of impact is to keep him on the sideline. Therefore, Giddings will rely on a pair of sophomores and juniors to make their offense hum.
The Buffaloes use a power rushing attack led by sophomore Bryson McDaniel, who has 38 carries for 426 yards and five touchdowns and junior Dvonte Jackson, who has 13 rushes for 81 yards and a score, to move the chains.
Sophomore quarterback Gunnar Fromme has completed 9 of 20 passes for 53 yards and thrown an interception and has one carry for 3 yards. Junior Cade Patschke has six receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown.
Senior defensive back Gilbert Valdez, junior defensive back Lew Laidler and senior linebacker Will Johnson lead the Burnet defense.
Defensively, the Buffaloes are led by junior Rex Shoemaker, who has 27 tackles and a sack. Jackson has an interception.
Burnet will counter with junior quarterback Rhett Murray, who has completed 27 of 40 passes for 403 yards and three touchdowns, senior running back Dash Denton, who has 20 carries for 205 yards and three scores, junior running back Khris Kassner, who has 11 rushes for 94 yards, senior receiver Trenton Park, who has seven catches for 72 yards, and Jones, who has four receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
